All Confirmation candidates will be expected to participate in the total program.
ATTENDANCE – Candidates must attend one of the Confirmation class options. Only one (1) absence will be allowed during this compact preparation program. All missed work must be made up. Candidates attending the summer session MUST commit to all four days.
SERVICE – One service project will be required in each of the following areas:
Social Justice – St. Francis Soup Kitchen, Help w/Special Needs children or similar
Parish Community – Parish Picnic, Fall Clean Up, Nursery, etc.
Family/Neighborhood Project – Your choice
Service projects must be completed and forms turned in by March 15.
Ongoing Faith Formation/Elective Hours -- The Archdiocese requires students participate in religious education throughout the entire year as part of their Confirmation preparation. Candidates fulfill this requirement by attending either a Catholic High School or Life Teen activities at Holy Trinity. For those not attending a Catholic School, ten (10) elective hours are required. See the Overview of Electives sheet.
RETREAT – A retreat is required for Confirmation. We encourage all candidates to attend a Confirmation retreat on August 4-5 or January 5-6, but if this is not possible, the Life Teen fall or spring retreat will fulfill this requirement.INTERVIEW – New!!! Interviews will take place in a group setting called a “Discernment Gathering”. Discernment Gatherings will be held throughout the year. Sign up sheets with dates and time will be on the bulletin board in Loreto Hall. ALL candidates must attend one meeting before March 15. A minimum of 10 candidates are needed for the Discernment meeting to take place. Meetings will be 1½ hours in length. Parents do not need to be present.
BAPTISMAL & FIRST EUCHARIST CERTIFICATES are required for each candidate. Photocopies of certificates are due to the R.E. office by February 1.
SPONSORS – Candidates are asked to choose a person who is 16 years of age or older, Confirmed, and a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church to be their sponsor. A parent cannot be chosen. However, a parent can serve as a proxy if the chosen sponsor is unable to attend. A sponsor form is provided, but many churches have their own form. Sponsor forms are due by February 1.
CONFIRMATION NAME – The candidate can choose his/her given name for Confirmation if it is a Christian name. Whatever name is chosen, the candidate must research their saint name and write a full-page summary in your own words stating who they chose, what country that person is from, the feast day, what they are the patron saint of, what that person did to become a saint, and why they are choosing that person. No computer printout copies will be accepted. Saint essays are to be turned in by March 15.
